Blogger Interview Pip Lincole
When and why did you start your blog?

I started my blog in December 2006. I really wanted to be published in some way, a book perhaps or an article in a magazine. Blogging seemed like the very best way to take the bull by the horns and make things happen myself. I figured I could talk to people, get my work seen and perhaps some good things would come of it!

Describe your blog in 20 words or less

I blog about things that make life brighter:  things to make or do, places to go, good stuff to know!

What are your 5 must have tools for blogging?

MacBook Pro, iPhone, Olympus OMD camera, cosy place to write, bright ideas

What do you enjoy most about being a blogger?

I enjoy the friendships the most. I’ve made so many great friends and I’ve learnt a lot about myself along the way. I love that blogging is a great way to stay self aware and keep tweaking your life and attitudes, improving yourself every day. I also love being part of the amazing blogging community which stretches so very far across the globe!

What’s the best blogging advice you’ve ever received?

I always seem to be ASKED for advice. That’s a tricky one! I would say Nikki Parkinson’s tip about using an editorial calendar is the best. I always thought blogging should be spontaneous, but it’s important to stay on track and plan ahead too! Thanks Nikki!

What has been your blog’s biggest achievement?

It’s been an online folio that’s lead me to have a few books published. My fifth book (this time with Penguin Books) is in the design stage now and will be off to the printers soon enough! That’s been a great achievement because it’s what I set out to do when I started blogging.

What do you find is the best way to help promote your blog?

I find that a mixture of doing really interesting real life events and sharing my blog on my personal Facebook profile helps to promote my work. Other social media platforms are good too, but Facebook hasn’t capped the reach of personal Facebook profiles yet, so that’s working well!

What are your tips to overcome the dreaded Bloggers block?

I think getting away from the computer and getting out in the world every day is VITAL. I also think that reading lots of books, seeing films and going to interesting events like conferences and lectures keeps things bubbling away nicely in the ideas department. I must say, I am the kind of person with TOO MANY ideas, so I don’t suffer from Bloggers’ block!

Do you (or do you plan to) make any income from your blog?

I make an income from products I create around my blog. Books, writing, speaking, events, ecourses and the like. I’m going to do a little bit of work with some sponsors on my blog soon, so that will be really interesting.

What future goals do you have for your blog?

I’m just going to keep rolling along and creating side projects that keep things fresh too. My blog is like a diary of the things that interest me, and I am always interested in things! I’ve got some workshops coming up and I really want to do a lot more of those and promote them to my readers. I love creative work, teaching and helping people to learn new stuff about themselves/life, so that’s my future focus, for sure.

What is your all time favourite post that you would love people to read?

Oh gosh. I literally have over 5000 posts to choose from. No kidding! I’m going to slide out of this by saying I’m only as good as my latest work, so MY LATEST POST!

What is your most popular post (in number of comments, or traffic received)?

It’s a really old one with great SEO value: 25 ways to make a book by hand

Who are your 5 favourite bloggers and why?

I’m going to go with Australian bloggers to narrow things down a bit…
Hugo and Elsa: beautiful photos from her really beautiful rural Tasmanian life. Michelle is such a lovely person. She’s totally underrated in my opinion. Her skills are wide ranging and she’s really humble about them. She’s a favourite.
LunchLady: I love a bit of useful passion and Kate Berry has that totally sewn up in her LunchLady blog which documents healthy lunches and alternatives to processed food.
Cook Republic: Sneh Roy is not only a genius in the food blogging department, she’s one of the nicest, funniest ladies you will ever meet. She backs it all up with a firm foundation of great recipes, good writing and consistent posting. A treasure of the Australian blogging community.
Milk Please Mum: Tahnee’s blog encourages me to at least TRY to take better photos. She documents her lovely life and I feel pretty lucky as a reader to be able to tag along.
Miss Zali: This is the blog of my friend Hailey Bartholomew’s daughter, Zali. Gosh. I love watching what she does because not only is it clever and creative, it shows us that the new guard of Australian bloggers is totally waiting in the wings and already doing a beautiful job.
