Running Competitions On Facebook Just Got A Whole Lot Easier

Facebook has just announced changes to its terms of use for pages making it easier to run competitions and engage with your fans.facebook-like-label

Previously, you could only run your Facebook competitions using a 3rd party app on a tab within your page. You were not allow to use any of the Facebook mechanics for entry into the competition. Meaning asking for likes, comments for entry or even announcing winners on your page was against the rules.

Now, promotions may be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook. For example, blogs can now:

  • Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users message the Page
  • Utilise likes as a voting mechanism

As before, however, you cannot administer promotions on personal Timelines.

The only rule that still stands is you cannot ask people to tag themselves in a picture that are not in to gain entry into a competition.

So, running competitions on your fan pages just got a whole lot easier and less confusing. But do still check the laws for running competitions in your state, Crash Test Mummy has a great run down on the rules.
