Viva La Lizzi!

There’s no doubt for a body image warrior such as myself, that the glamour world of fashion & modelling can be incredibly worrying. Lack of appreciation for diversity in size, shape, ethnicity. Very young girls parading in very mature clothes. Older male photographers, underage models. Insidious dieting & weight practices. The list goes on.
Despite all my concerns, it may come as a surprise to some that I do think in some instances that the fashionista’s are trying. There’s a long way to go & I’m not handing out “A” scores yet – but they’re trying & I think this photo below of model Lizzi Miller from Glamour Magazine clearly shows they are.
Pause.
Sigh.
Beautiful.

Let’s hope that both magazines & many others pay attention to the comments that their readers are making & don’t make this a publicity grabbing ‘once off’, but rather see it as a collective desire of so many girls & women who want to look at fashion magazines & feel great about themselves & their body image.
Please, please, listen powerful magazine editors. We want more Lizzi’s!

SHOUT IT OUT LOUD AND FROM THE ROOFTOPS INDEED! Thank you for posting this. What a way to end the week! I have been dealing with the beginnings of a small person’s questioning of self image. I posted on what was beginning to happen and had many frustrated, concerned responses. The Lizzi Miller pic looks like one small but utterly significant step in the right direction! More Lizzi’s!

This is truly uplifting – she does indeed look so happy in her own skin … thanks for this lovely post – I’m with Myrtle and Eunice :)
OH how fabulous. Isn’t she gorgeous ? Keep the “real” women coming !
Kudos to gorgeous model Lizzi Miller! Lizzi, you are absolutely beautiful! It’s GREAT that Glamour Magazine & the like are learning that we want to see REAL WOMEN not stick thin models. If this had happened years ago I might have realised that it’s OK not to look like those skinny models in magazines. My self esteem went out the window long ago and my years of dieting have only resulted in continual weight gain. My doctor has now convinced me to have lap band surgery. I need to lose 72 kg to reach a “healthy” weight.
WE NEED TO TEACH OUR SONS AS WELL AS OUR DAUGHTERS that being healthy and having a healthy self esteem are much more important than body type and size.
