50 and fabulous.
On Star Island, Miami on Wednesday night, Jennifer Lopez and her 250 closest friends ushered in the hitmaker’s 50th birthday in style.
And, alongside the multi-tiered cake, performances by her daughter Emme, DJ Khaled and Ashanti, the flowing champagne, the fireworks and the gilded décor that decorated Gloria and Emilio Estefan’s estate, Lopez rang in the lavish festivities in custom Versace to match with the theme.
Enlisting the help of long-time stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Lopez arrived to her birthday in a show-stopping bondage-style chain mail Versace dress. Fit for an entertainment queen, the dress featured a crisscross neckline embellished with gold buckles, cut-outs and a daring thigh-high slit at one side, emphasising the star’s incredible figure.
The dress, which first walked down the runway in a black version for Versace’s autumn/winter ‘19/’20 show—expertly modelled by Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel—was custom designed for Lopez’s birthday party in a shimmering, dazzling gold colour. Lopez emphasised the bold hue of the dress by rounding out her ensemble with coordinating heels, rings and statement hoop earrings to bring the look together.

The original design, which costs a cool AU$21,557, may also look familiar as it was recently worn by none other than television star-turned-beauty mogul, Kim Kardashian West, on the front cover of Vogue Japan styled by Anna Dello Russo.
That Lopez chose to celebrate in custom Versace is unsurprising. A long-time fan and supporter of the luxury Italian house, Lopez’s birthday number will no doubt be remembered as iconic.
The Jenny from the Block singer’s green Versace dress that she wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000 (and that is seared into our memories as one of the greatest moments in celebrity style nearly two decades later) recently inspired the house’s new set of sneakers, which retail for $1500. Perhaps a gold version, inspired by her 50th birthday, is in the works now.
Happy birthday, JLo!
