The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with two of their children, Prince George, 6, and Princess Charlotte, 4, took to the high seas for charity sailing regatta, The King’s Cup, on August 8 on the Isle of Wight, showing off a variety of nautical-inspired looks during the outing.

The duke and duchess competed against each other in the regatta, skippering separate boats in aid of raising awareness and funds for eight of their patronages. In a post to their Instagram account, @kensingtonroyal, the couple announced the charities they would be competing on behalf of, noting that Prince William was competing on behalf of Child Bereavement UK and Kate Middleton for The Royal Foundation’s Early Years program.

A number of other high profile celebrities joined the duke and duchess, including British SAS serviceman and adventurer Bear Grylls who was representing wildlife conservation organisation, Tusk.

Grylls’s team on behalf of Tusk won the The King’s Cup, while Prince William’s team came in a very respectable third. Royal Central reports Middleton’s boat was disqualified, and for her efforts on the day, Middleton was presented with a giant wooden spoon during the prize-giving ceremony.

However, Middleton did win the day in the sartorial stakes. Arriving at the event, Middleton channelled French nautical style in a multi-coloured striped Sandro knit top from the brand’s spring/summer ‘19/‘20 collection paired with navy LK Bennett wide-legged cropped pants and white Superga sneakers.

Middleton and Prince William changed into matching navy shorts and white polo-neck T-shirts for the race, an outfit Middleton added a navy cap, cream and navy jacket and life vest to.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte watched the regatta with their grandparents, Michael and Carole Middleton, from a vantage point on a boat. They also reportedly enjoyed a number activities on the shore during the event, where Hello! reports their brother, Prince Louis, is said to have been stationed.

Prince George wore a navy and white Breton polo T-shirt with beige shorts and Princess Charlotte wore a light blue and white striped summer dress. The kids looked to have had a ball, at one point Prince George donned a cute captain’s hat and Princess Charlotte playfully poked her tongue out at someone in the crowd!
